Mt. Bachelor, Oregon

Cross-country and snowshoeing

The Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center, across the parking lot from the West Village base lodge, has 56 km. of machine-groomed tracked trails. There more than 12 loops, from the easy 1-km. First Time Around to the challenging 12-km. Oli's Alley. The 6-km. intermediate trail called Zigzag leads to a heated shelter with good views. Next to the Common Corridor is a true freestyle terrain park—a quarter-mile of hits, spines and tabletops. The center has equipment rental, clothing and accessories, repairs, trail and lesson information and lunch. Most of the terrain is best suited for intermediate levels. Passes cost $13 for adults mid-week and $16 on weekends and holidays; $8 for children 6–12 and seniors 65–69 mid-week or $9 on weekends. Children younger than 6 and seniors 70+ ski free. Here's a trail map.

The U.S. Forest Service, with a hut in Mt. Bachelor's West Village parking lot, has several interpretive programs, including a snowshoe tour with a USFS naturalist. Someone is available on weekends and daily during holidays.
